Pearl Izumi Elite Barrier Shoe Covers

Pearl Izumi Elite Barrier Shoe Covers

The quest continues for winter cycling gear. I’m getting close to obtaining all the clothing and accessories I feel that I need to make the cold weather cycling enjoyable. Probably just in time too. As i write this the temperature is about 30 degrees with the impending threat of 12 hours of heavy snow.

First up is Pearl Izumi Elite Barrier Shoe Covers. I am a firm believer that warmth starts and ends with your head and feet. Typical cycling or mountain bike shoes are meant to keep your feet cool in the summer. That is not a good thing for winter riding. I had wanted to by a pair of Sidi Hydro GTX shoes (Sidi Diablo GTX is the mountain bike version) which are designed for winter cycling but the price is pretty steep and there seems to be a shortage in size 46. Instead I opted for the Pearl Izumi Elite Barrier Shoe Covers and a pair of Pearl Izumi Elite Tall Wool Socks. It’s my hope that the socks and shoe covers will be warm enough for the temperatures that I am willing to face. If all else fails I will locate a pair of the Sidi Hydro GTX and call it a day.

Next up I wanted to get a Balaclava. After a few hours of research I ended up ordering a Chaos CTR Howler Multi-Tasker Pro Windproof Balaclava. On paper it has all the right stuff specification wise. All the right fabrics, seams in the correct places, and breathing panels that will keep glasses from fogging.
